Hotels and Hostels
These are establishments with more than 15 bedrooms.
Establishments awarded with the Green Key certification meet a set of high standard environmental requirements. We have developed criteria and explanatory notes for six Green Key categories (hotels and hostels, campsites and holiday parks, small accommodations, conference centres, restaurants and attractions) covering the same 13 criteria areas.
The Green Key criteria and explanatory notes for hotels and hostels have received ‘GSTC-recognition’ status. Green Key criteria have been developed for the following categories:
For more information regarding the Green Key criteria, please contact us
Step 1: Pre-assessment of eligibility and pre-application support
Step 2: Official application and evaluation
Step 3: On-site audit and report
Step 4: Green Key Kenya/National Jury recommendation and decision
Step 5: Green Key certification awarded to establishment
Renewal of the award
Time Frame
The timeframe for obtaining Green Key certification varies and is dependent on the establishment’s sustainability efforts, support needs and application documents. Preparation for Green Key certification and the adjustment period usually takes longer than the approval of the application and the awarding of the certification.
