Dr. Dorcas Beryl Otieno OGW
Founder & Executive Director of KOEE
Dr. Otieno is the founder & Executive Director of Kenya Organization for Environmental Education. She oversees all the organisations programmes, and specifically coordinates the Education for Sustainable Development Programme and Eco-schools.
She is currently the UNESCO Chair for Higher Education Development for a Green Economy and Sustainability (HEDGES) at Kenyatta University. This entails research and innovation, development of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary competency based sustainability curriculum, capacity building and private public partnership to enhance youth employability as a pathway to transition to green economy and sustainable societies. Dr. Otieno is also a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Studies at Kenyatta University.
She has authored several publications including Education for Sustainable Development strategies/guidelines, papers, books, toolkits for use in local, regional and international education and training institutions. Dr. Otieno is a member of various committees, notably the steering committee that developed the Kenya Green Economy Strategy Implementation Plan 2014-2016; and Vice Chairperson and Chairperson of NEMA 2003-2010. In 2008 she received a Presidential Order of the Grand Warrior Award in recognition of her work in improving environmental management in the public sector. Dr. Otieno has a PhD in Environmental Ethics Education, Masters in Environmental Education, and Bachelor of Education.
